What is the Property Tax Deferral Program?
The Property Tax Deferral Program offers individuals a way to defer property taxes on their home and up to one acre of land. The taxes and interest must eventually be repaid to the state of Idaho.
Do I qualify?
You may qualify if you meet the follow requirements:
- You owned and lived in a home or mobile home in the state of Idaho that was your primary residence before April 15th of the year in which you are applying, and it isn't subject to a trust, life estate, or other interest
- You meet the income guidelines for the year in which you are applying
And you are one of the following as of January 1st of the year in which you are applying:
- Age 65 or older
- Widow(er)
- Blind
- Fatherless or Motherless child under the age of 18
- Former hostage or prisoner of war
- Veteran with 10% or more service-connected disability or receiving a pension from Veteran's Affairs (VA) for a nonservice-connected disability
- Disabled as recognized by the Social Security Administration, Railroad Retirement Board, or Federal Civil Service
Where do I apply?
The Property Tax Deferral Program applications are available from the County Assessors’ Office. Applications must be submitted between January 1st and April 15th. You must apply and qualify each year to receive a property tax deferral. Benefits are not automatically renewed. More Information about this program and the application is available online HERE.
