How do I get a copy of a Birth, Death, Stillbirth, Marriage, or Divorce Certificate?
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Bureau of Health Policy and Vital Statistics maintains birth and death records filed from July 1911 to the present, and marriage and divorce records filed from May 1947 to the present. Birth, death, stillbirth, marriage, and divorce certificates are legally confidential in Idaho. People requesting a certified copy of a certificate must provide a photocopy of acceptable identification. Proof of relation may also be required. The Bureau of Health Policy and Vital Statistics also manages the Voluntary Adoption Registry for Idaho.
Adoption records in Idaho are confidential; however, the Idaho Legislature authorized the Voluntary Adoption Registry to bring people together who have a mutual interest in such contact (Section 39-259A, Idaho Code). The Idaho Voluntary Adoption Registry is a confidential cross-reference file of people who are or were the principal parties in an adoption. All people who have filed with the Registry have indicated their wish to make their identities known to other parties involved in the adoption. For more information, call 1-208-334-5980
