Travel Health Information and Advisories 6/2010

Are you planning to travel outside the United States?

If so, there may be health risks you should be aware of before you go. Visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s web site to find health risk information. Online, go to: www.cdc.gov/travel

On the Center for Disease Control’s web site, you can find information about health risks for specific destinations, vaccination information, advice on staying healthy during your trip, and much more.

If you discover you need specific vaccinations before your trip:

Contact your primary health care provider or your local district health department.

By phone, you can call the 2-1-1 Idaho CareLine by dialing 2-1-1 or 1-800-926-2588 to get the contact information of your local district health department office.

Are you wondering if there are any travel advisory warnings for your destination?

Travel Advisory Warnings are issued when the U.S. State Department recommends that Americans avoid certain countries. The U.S. State Department issues Consular Information Sheets (http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1765.html) for every country of the world with information on such matters as the health conditions, crime, unusual currency or entry requirements, any areas of instability, and the location of the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate in the subject country.
