State-Funded Health Coverage in Idaho 6/2010

Are you or your children currently without health care coverage? Does your work place offer health care coverage but you just can’t afford it? Are you unemployed and have no health care coverage options? Maybe you qualify for Idaho State Funded Health Coverage.

Low income families living in Idaho, can apply to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Self Reliance office for health care coverage called Medicaid. If you are new to Idaho, there is no wait period before you can apply. You can submit an application as soon as you are a resident of Idaho. If you qualify, you could receive health coverage at no cost or at a very low cost to you.

Quick Facts about Medicaid…

  • Dial 2-1-1 to get an application for Medicaid mailed to you or to get contact information to your local Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Self      Reliance office.
  • You can get an application online. Go to: www.healthandwelfare.idaho.gov to print the application.
  • Applying for health care coverage does not cost you anything.
  • There are different guidelines between the adult’s and children’s health care coverage programs. In a family, adults may not qualify but the children might.
  • You can apply for Medicaid for the whole family on the same application.
  • There are Medicaid options available specifically for pregnant women, the elderly, and for people with disabilities.
  • If you are in need of health care coverage, apply as soon as possible as it may take up to 45 days for the Department of Health and Welfare to process your application.

Once you have completed an application, you can walk it in to the Idaho Health and Welfare’s Self Reliance office, you can mail it in, or you can fax it in. As with any insurance program, be it state-funded or private, a person on Medicaid must go to a health care provider who accepts their particular health care coverage.
